I absolutely love Filipino food – it’s so savory and delicious. When I was young, my Lola (grandma) watched me everyday and cooked chicken adobo at least once a week. The smells coming from the kitchen were intoxicating and drew me in – cartoon style, feet floating and nose following the visible aroma. I always look forward to chicken adobo over rice on the kitchen table. These days I’m avoiding rice but the flavors of Filipino adobo are so versatile they can be added to almost anything. ¡Buenos Días! I went to my local farmer’s market last night to pick up a few things and was quite ashamed that I didn’t immediately respond to the cashier in Spanish as she commented on the large size of the apples I was purchasing. I used to be able to think, write, and speak Spanish without a moment’s notice. Now, I’m lucky if I can mutter more than a phrase about how I am out of practice because I have no one to speak it to at home. Quite a crime, actually. In any case, I proceeded to listen to the Spanish station on my way home in the car to make up for my lack of practice. I struggled through the commercials and eventually gave up on my mental translation to call my boyfriend. Ah, such is life I suppose. So in honor of my severely lacking Spanish skills, I give you CARNE ASADA!
Alooooooooooooooha! I love short work weeks. It’s like you have more motivation to be a good employee because you’ve (a) been away from work for more than 2 days and (b) the weekend is already a day closer to being here! Since summer is upon us, the days are getting longer giving you the feeling that you actually have more time to enjoy your day despite the obviousness that you must be asleep by 10pm to wake up like a functioning human-being at 6am the next day. No? Just me? Alright then. In that case, here’s to making daily tasks easier so you can at least enjoy a few minutes of the longer, lighter evening.

I made this strawberry cake for Easter and loved it! I’m not much of a cake person, but the addition of strawberries really piqued my interest. Also the fact that the cake is pink on both the INSIDE and OUTSIDE really sold me. What more could you really ask for!? 🙂 (more…)
