Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Since my mother works in the wonderful world of retail, her child-less co-workers refused to let her enjoy the day with me [insert theatrical eye-roll here]. So to make lemonade out of lemons, I took her out for an early Mother’s Day dinner at Texas de Brazil in Yonkers last weekend! (Just FYI, this is not an ad for this restaurant we just love it!)

Texas de Brazil Yonkers

Texas de Brazil is a Brazilian-style chain restaurant specializing in grilled meats. If you haven’t been to one of these restaurants before, you’re seriously missing out! Located in Yonkers’ Ridge Hill Shopping Center off of the Major Deegan Expressway, Texas de Brazil is a beautiful place to come with family and friends to have a fantastic and filling meal. It’s a carnivore’s dream and the quality of their food and service is unmatched. If going for dinner, I definitely recommend making a reservation.

Texas de Brazil doesn’t have a menu and charges a flat rate for dinner. The price is a little less than $50 and includes the salad bar, unlimited meats, mashed potatoes, and fried bananas. That might sounds like a lot of money for dinner, but it is literally all you can eat! I know you’re probably thinking, oh, big deal. Dinner and salad bar? But the salad bar itself is a sight to be seen. It includes DELICIOUS lobster bisque, various cheeses and cured meats, cold salads, smoked salmon, sushi, vegetables, bread, rice, beans, potatoes, BACON, shrimp, and more mouth-watering choices. And that’s just the beginning! Once you fill up on the cold food and side dishes, the real feast begins. Ladies, listen up. Attractive knife-wielding men dressed as gauchos come to your table and offer you their meat. (Go ahead and giggle at the thought. I do!)

Okay, here’s how it works. On your table you have your giant plate, silverware, tongs, and a double-sided circle with a red side and a green side. Then dinner is like a game. Green means go and red means stop. When the green side of the card faces upward, the gauchos will come to your table and present you with their speared specialty and cut you off a slice (that’s where the tongs come in handy). The variety of meats range from filet wrapped in bacon, garlic sirloin, various spiced chickens, pork, lamb, beef and pork ribs, and chorizo. And it is truly all you can eat. If you leave there without being full, you’re doing something wrong! Once you simply cannot eat anymore, just flip your card to red and the gauchos will know to leave you alone. It reminds me of a do not disturb card for eating.

And if the salad bar, meats, and side dishes weren’t enough, they offer a fantastic dessert menu for your consideration. I highly recommend the crème brûlée and bananas foster pie.

Texas de Brazil also has an impressively large wine and drink selection. Since I’m boring and not much of a drinker, I’m afraid I am not very helpful in that department. After dinner, my mother and I rolled out of there with full bellies and took a walk around the shopping center before our almost 2 hour ride home. Yes, some think we are nuts for driving so far to have dinner; but once you’ve tasted it, you’ll understand completely!

Love you Mom!

Love you Mom!

Even though it was a week early, it was nice to have a mother-daughter day to talk, laugh, and spend some quality time together. It’s so important to make time to bond with the ones you love. So make sure you remember to do something nice for your mom today, whether it’s taking her out for a meal or just calling her to chat.
